Funfetti Sprinkle Sugar Cookies | Patriotic Holidays
I did get the inspiration and motivation to create this recipe based on the upcoming Olympics, but you don’t have to limit it to every 4 years. You can bake these cookies (with the exact same Funfetti Sprinkles) for any other patriotic celebrations or holidays including:
- MLK Day | 3rd Monday in January
- President’s Day/Washington’s Birthday | 3rd Monday in February
- Memorial Day | Last Monday in May
- Flag Day | June 14
- Juneteenth | June 19
- Independence Day | July 4
- Labor Day | 1st Monday in September
- Veteran’s Day | November 11
You can also change up the colors to make this recipe even more versatile, like green and red sprinkles for Christmas or green, white and orange for St. Patrick’s Day. Now that I’ve listed some fun ideas for the days to make these cookies, let’s get started on the actual recipe!

This is a great option if you want an easy recipe that can be made quickly, just like our Best Oatmeal Poppy Seed Cookies Recipe. But these cookies have an added bonus: the bright red, white, and blue sprinkles!
Ingredients
- 2 ¼ cups All-Purpose Flour
- 1 tsp Baking Soda
- ½ tsp Baking Powder
- 1 cup (2 sticks) Unsalted Butter, softened
- 1 ½ cups Granulated Sugar
- 1 Large Egg
- 2 tsp Vanilla Extract
- 3 tbsp Milk
- ½ cup Patriotic Sprinkles (can be found on Amazon or any other online retailer)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F and prepare your baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Grab a medium/large mixing bowl add in all-purpose flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Whisk or stir to combine.
- Grab a separate large mixing bowl and add in softened sticks of butter and granulated sugar. Cream together using a handheld mixer or stand mixer. This should take around 2 minutes.
- Next, beat in the egg and vanilla extract until combined. Carefully pour the dry flour mixture (from Step #2) into this wet mixture. Mix until just combined.
- Add the milk and mix until the cookie dough is smooth. Carefully fold in the patriotic sprinkles (recommend with a spatula) and do not overmix to protect colors from bleeding.
- Scoop rounded tablespoons of dough and place them onto the prepared baking sheet. Avoid my mistake (see video above) and ensure the dough balls are at least 2″ apart.
- Bake in the preheated oven at 375°F for 8-10 minutes or until the edges are golden brown, you know the routine 🙂
- Carefully remove the baking sheets from the oven and allow the cookies to cool for at least 5 minutes.
