Mocha Frappuccino Recipe

If you’re a fan of Mocha Frappuccinos but not a fan of the coffee shop price tag, you’re in the right place. I’ve got a homemade version that’s quick, creamy, and seriously delicious. Plus, you don’t even need a fancy espresso machine to make it work. This mocha frappuccino blends rich chocolate, smooth coffee, and a hint of vanilla into a frozen treat that’s perfect for warm days (or honestly, any day you’re craving something sweet and refreshing).

I’ll show you exactly how I make mine, and I even include a full video below. Remember, you can always tweak it to make it your own!

Taste & Flavor

I’ve described the flavor of many recipes at this point, but I can honestly say that this was possibly the biggest surprise of all. I did not have high expectations, because I was worried this would be overly sweet. It has a perfect balance, and it isn’t too sweet at all.

This mocha frappuccino is smooth, chocolatey, and just the right amount of coffee flavor. You get that rich mocha flavor right away—like a creamy chocolate milkshake with a shot (or two) of bold espresso to wake things up. The natural vanilla adds a little warmth and sweetness that ties everything together. It’s cold, refreshing, and tastes like a treat you’d grab from your favorite coffee shop… but better, because you made it at home in your PJs.

I decided to create this recipe after getting positive feedback and seeing the popularity of our Starbucks-inspired Vanilla Frappuccino Recipe. You should check it out at some point… but now, let’s get started on our mocha recipe!

Caffeine Content

A typical Starbucks Mocha Frappuccino blended beverage gets its caffeine from coffee, not espresso, and the amount depends on the size: tall has about 70 mg, grande jumps to 95 mg, and a venti has around 110 mg. This can all vary depending on how accurate the barista is with the measurements.

That said, you won’t find any actual espresso shots in the Traditional Starbucks version unless you customized it. With this homemade version, you’ve got way more control. I like using 1 shot of espresso, which gives it a nice little coffee kick without being overpowering—but if you’re looking for more of a boost, go ahead and add a second shot.

Want to keep it caffeine-free? Just skip the espresso entirely and blend everything else as-is. It still tastes amazing, and it’s a fun treat for kids or anyone avoiding caffeine!

Mocha Frappuccino Full Video Recipe

This video is the best way to see exactly how I make this mocha frappuccino from start to finish. Some things—like the texture, blending time, or just how thick and creamy it turns out—are way easier to show than explain. Whether you’re a visual learner like me or just want to double-check how everything comes together, this video gives you a clear look at the process.

I’m not an expert, so you can learn from my mistakes as well. You’ll get a feel for how I like to make it, so you can adjust it to fit your taste. To summarize, give it a watch before you blend yours up!

This recipe makes enough for (1) Large Mocha Frappuccino serving. You can pretty easily divide it up between (2) people, and they would still be happy. If you are serving to a larger group or party, multiply the recipe accordingly.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Ice
  • ¾ cup of Milk (suggest 2% but any dairy or non dairy is fine)
  • 1-2 shots Espresso, cooled (or 4 oz very strongly brewed coffee)
  • 3 tbsp Chocolate Sauce
  • 2 tbsp Vanilla Syrup* (or 2 tbsp Sugar + ¼ tsp Vanilla Extract)
  • Whipped Cream for Topping

Check out our High Grade Vanilla Syrup, or you can also substitute 2 tbsp Granulated Sugar + 1/4 tsp Vanilla Bean Extract.

Instructions

  1. Brew a single or double shot (or use 4 oz very strong coffee). Then place the espresso (or coffee) in fridge for cooling while we move on to the next steps
  2. Add 1 – 1 ½ cups ice to blender container
  3. Pour in ¾ cup of milk over ice into the blender container
  4. Retrieve the espresso (now cooled) from the fridge and add to the other ingredients in the blender container
  5. Add 3 tbsp chocolate sauce (make sure it’s sauce and not syrup)
  6. Add in 2 tbsp of vanilla syrup (or 2 tbsp granulated sugar + ¼ tsp vanilla extract)
  7. Verify lid is secure, then blend ingredients on blender frozen drink setting (or similar) for approximately 1 minute. Make sure that it is fully blended/mixed.
  8. Remove blender lid, then pour into serving glass. Add in whipped cream and drizzle chocolate sauce.

Now it’s ready to enjoy!
