A Discussion about Blue Bird Poppy Seeds

I’ve decided to write a brief post describing some basics about one of our most popular products, our Blue Bird Poppy Seeds™. Many of you, our dedicated customers, will wonder why I am writing this post. This is a response to frequently asked email questions and misinformation being spread by others online. I have been shocked by the sheer volume of misleading info, whether motivated by ignorance or malice, so I’ve decided to combat it. Unfortunately, a significant portion of the inaccurate info was purposefully spread, and we even discovered other seed companies (competitors) among the sources. We want to clear up inaccurate info to ensure all of our customers, including new and potential shoppers, are armed with the correct details.

Country of Origin | England
Our poppy seeds are harvested from farms located in England. We have chosen seeds from England because the quality and taste are excellent. The unique flavor profile and aroma have propelled England to the top spot for quality seeds. We have also found that English seeds are more consistent than in other countries. All crops and natural products have slight variations in taste, appearance, etc. because they are impacted by Mother Nature. We do our best to minimize these variations and supply the best possible seeds.
Identifying the Best Poppy Seeds
We are constantly monitoring and studying different seed & nut sources to identify the best products on the market. The poppy seed market is unique, and it takes a considerable amount of time and effort to stay current. This hard work pays off and helps us discover excellent sources. As stated above, our poppy seeds are harvested in England and shipped to the United States. The seeds arrive at our warehouse in a similar manner to many of our other products. The large seed bags weigh over 1,000 lbs and are transported on pallets. We have included some pictures of these large containers at our warehouse above & below.
Quality Control
Once the poppy seeds arrive at our warehouse, they still must earn the Blue Bird name. Multiple team members check each batch to make sure that the quality, appearance, and flavor of the seeds make them worthy to be sold on our site. Seeds that do not meet our specifications are disposed of appropriately. This rigorous process helps ensure that Blue Bird Poppy Seeds™ maintain their position at the top. We’ve also mastered the art of properly storing poppy seeds to ensure their flavor remains delicious and nutty!
The Price of Blue Bird Seeds
We are aware that Blue Bird Poppy Seeds™ are not the cheapest brand available. Our focus is not on providing the cheapest seeds like a majority of other brands. We DO focus on providing the highest quality product at a reasonable price. The quality of our Blue Bird Poppy Seeds™ is worth the price point, and we consistently receive positive feedback stating they are a great value. As a result, the price of our seeds is reasonable considering the quality. We are fortunate that our Lone Goose Bakery community tends to appreciate quality.

I have ordered a few times since the new shipment of poppy seeds/ 2019-2020 and I have found that these poppy seeds seem to have alot less of the quality that I have been accustom to. Now I have heard many neg remarks on the reviews that have been posted in regards to this season but I wasn’t to concerned because there are always those trolls that are out to make bad for others but so far unfortunately I have not been impressed I sure hope the quality will go back to being the great seeds that I know lgb is known for. But I will be checking out some other options and I’m really not looking forward to the search for other retailers. It’s not cheap uhg

It was one of the first things I noticed too that there was very little plant matter , but after trying them they was not much difference from the other poppy seeds I had bought the months before which surprised me. Bluebird seeds are still the best by far and I don’t say that lightly. I spend a lot of money here each month, but it’s well worth it . I ordered 5 lbs of the new seeds they were very good have no complaints about the seeds maby it was a fluke that yours were not good my were great my order was here in 1 day because I am impatient and used overnight shipping was worth every penny just saying been ordering from lonegoose for a few years now and never had a bad batch thanks and keep up the great service BLUEBIRD
What happened to the LGB I used to order from? Received my poppy seeds today (fast shipping, great customer service, no complaints there) but the first thing noticed….no plant matter…uh oh. I was completely floored to find that these seeds were not good at all. Nothing like they were. I’ll try one more time in case it was a fluke. THAT’S loyalty. Fingers crossed. So pricey. 12/12/19.
The new harvest does not have near as much plant matter incorporated with the seeds. Even without plant matter, the quality of the seeds has not diminished. We, along with our suppliers, have done extensive testing to ensure that the seeds are still high quality. Though lacking plant matter, our seeds remain unprocessed and unwashed. I ordered some seeds a few days ago because I want to see how well your Blue Bird poppy seeds taste in smoothies! Due to ordering after the ship-by dates…they may not make it in time for the holidays. But I can wait!
I am also seeing some comments about the plant matter being removed. I will say that does not bother me one bit. I trust Lonegoosebakery above any and ALL of these vendors across the globe (many of which falsely advertise that they sell unprocessed seeds).
