Peppermint Syrup
Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas, everyone! The holiday season is currently in full force with less than three weeks to go until Christmas! As our community & website continues to grow, I am doing my best to add as many festive recipes as possible. My recent Chestnut Praline Syrup and Homemade Chestnut Praline Latte recipes have both been very popular and continue to grow.
This post follows the same trend with this Peppermint Syrup Recipe. I like this recipe due to its simplicity (only 4 ingredients), how quick it can be made (roughly 10 minutes), and the flavor and aroma it provides. It’s super simple and approachable, and the syrup is very versatile and can be used in many different drinks. I know you’re ready to get started, so let’s go!
Peppermint Syrup Taste
I now include this section for all of the recipes I create, but this one is going to be the most straightforward. Most of you have tried a candy cane before and are familiar with the flavor of peppermint. For those of you that want a better description, I’ll try my best:
Peppermint syrup combines the cool refreshing taste of peppermint and pairs it with the natural sweetness of simple syrup. You end up with a minty fresh sweetness that can be added to your morning latte, mocha, or coffee. It can also be added to mixed drinks to create festive cocktails. It is like a candy cane in liquid form.

I create these recipe videos for you and for myself too. I experience making these recipes, just like all of you. You can visually see how I follow each step, and the video includes tips and tricks that cannot easily be recorded in writing. If you are a visual learner, the recipe videos are very helpful. I recommend that everyone watches the video and also follows along with the written form of the recipe below. That gives you the best of both worlds and multiple ways to experience and learn how to make this Peppermint Syrup.
If you have any questions or comments, you can post them at the bottom of this page.
Peppermint Syrup | Full Recipe
This is an extremely simple recipe with very few ingredients, unlike the recipe for our Homemade Gingerbread Latte. Both are very tasty. This recipe makes 1 cup of finished Peppermint Syrup, and it can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three weeks. Since it is the holiday season, I ended up giving the extra bottle away as a gift. It can make a perfect addition to any holiday gift basket.
Ingredients
- 1 cup Water
- 1 cup Granulated Sugar
- 1 tsp Vanilla Extract (check out our Small Batch Vanilla Bean Extract)
- 1 tsp Peppermint Extract
Instructions
- Grab a small or medium saucepan and combine the water and granulated sugar.
- Turn your stovetop onto medium heat and heat the saucepan to a low boil. Stir consistently until the sugar is completely dissolved. It took approximately 5 minutes for our saucepan to boil.
- Once the sugar water mixture hits a low boil, reduce the heat and simmer on low for 5 minutes. Stir occasionally.
- Turn off the stovetop and remove the saucepan from heat. Stir in the vanilla extract and peppermint extract. Make sure everything is properly mixed.
- Allow the syrup to cool for 5-10 minutes. Now it is ready to be used! You can store any syrup that you don’t use immediately in an airtight container in the fridge. The properly stored peppermint extract will stay fresh for three weeks in the fridge.
Enjoy your Homemade Peppermint Syrup!
